CTF-CRUSADE

CTF-Crusade is a medium-sized Unreal Tournament map with a castle theme. It has 3 layers of main paths stacked on top of each other, with several connectors between them. Most of the shapes are made by using Unreal Engine's .bsp (binary space partitioning) tool.

LEVEL FLYTHROUGH

DESIGN INTENT

Provide three distinct traversal archetypes that support different playstyles and create meaningful risk/reward decisions:

  • CASTLE WALLS
    • A high-risk, high-reward route, offering the shortest distance from base to base.

​​

  • MAIN STREET
    • A mid-range focused route, with ease of access to all other routes.

​

  • SEWERS
    • A safer, longer, but resource-rich, close-quarter combat route, with some, but limited access to other routes.

SEWERS

MAIN STREET

CASTLE WALLS

CASTLE WALLS

  • Intent:

    • A vertical control point for players who want to dominate sightlines and control large portions of the map from range.

  • Rewards:

    • Exceptional long-range sightlines to the opposite side, main streets, and docks (down by the water, providing the Damage Amplifier pickup). Ideal for confident players.

    • Health vials on the walls help sustain duels.

    • Holding the walls grants strong map control and the ability to pressure enemy rotations and chokepoints.

    • The quickest route from base to base.

  • Risks:

    • Highly exposed with limited lateral visibility. You can see far, but other routes (especially the sewers) are mostly obscured. Vulnerable to coordinated pushes, jump-pad aggression from street level, and flanking from the docks.

MAIN STREET

  • Intent:

    • The level’s primary artery, with ease of access to other routes. Ideal for players who prefer adaptability.

  • Rewards:

    • Medium-range sightlines and regular cover create predictable skirmish spaces.

    • Provides distributed armor and health packs for sustained fights.

    • Two entrances into the sewers.

    • The middle house contains a jump pad that launches to the castle walls, enabling quick vertical plays and surprise pushes.

    • Offers the fastest traversal between the level’s main routes and rewards good positioning and pacing.

  • Risks:

    • Highest exposure compared to the other routes.

SEWERS

  • Intent:

    • A safe route for players who avoid long-range sightlines and prioritize survivability.

​​

  • Rewards:

    • Linear, predictable corridors lead to the central underground chamber containing a Flak Cannon, Bio Rifle, and the Shield Belt (+150 Armor). These items support slower, methodical play and sustain longer fights. If you secure them and execute a clean flank, you can become a significant threat to the opposing team.

  • Risks:

    • No sightlines to the other routes.

    • Some, but limited rotation options.

    • The longest distance from base to base.
